SKELETONS
Datton was
exhausted by the time he got back to his room. After a day of sword, arrow and
martial arts practice a man would be
tired much less a cute boy of thirteen. Every muscle and some of his joints hurt. More than once
he’d tortured, stretched and almost roasted and none of it hurt as much as
this.
Datton closed the
door and locked both locks. He leaned his sword called justice, against the
small table. A plate of half eaten lunch sat on the surface. He missed it and
now was go back all the way to the kitchens so it could be cleaned.
Datton decided to
leave it. It wasn’t his duty to clean them so what did it matter if it got
hard. He slipped off his t-shirt and tossed it over the chair near the table. A
few steps and he stood next to his bed. He dropped unto it and rolled over unto
his back.
His eyes had
barley closed before he was asleep.
Sometime later he
awoke suddenly, feeling danger. He leaned on his bed and let his eyes ajust to
the gloom. He’d heard something, like dry leaves rustling, but he could see
nothing in his room.
Standiing he
crossed to the sword and pulled it out. He put an ear to the door and listened.
“Are you sure this
is the room?“ Said a voice. The sound of it sent a shiver down Datton’s back.
“Yes, She’;s want
him for supper.” Another voice replied even worse than the first.
Well he wasn’t
going to be taken that easily. He unlocked the door quietly and flung it open.
A skeleton stood there, his hand around the doorknob, about to turn it. Three
more stood behind the first.
These shouldn’t be
too much trouble, Datton thought.
His sword slashed
off the head of the first skeleton. It dropped to the floor and rolled around
before hitting to leg of the chair with a hollow clunk.
“Damn you!”Screamed
a skeleton. In one hand was a shield and
the other a sword.
It swung at Datton
but he blocked it and pushed it back. The shield rang as his sword smashed into
it. The sksleton jabbed for Datton’s belly but again Datton mpoved aside
letting the blade go past his stomach. He chopped down and cutt of the
sksletons hand at the wrist.
Grabbing it he
swung it into the other three skeletons. It knocked down two of them but one
stood. It had a hugh axe more than big enough to slice Datton in two or split
his skull. Luckly skeletons have no muscle left and we very weak.
The axe whistled
through the air and barely missed Datton’s arm. Itswung back up the edge
gashing Datton’s leg.
He could see the
other two skeletons riseing and knew he had to finish this one first.
It swung the axe
in a blow ment to take off Datton’s head. Datton dropped into a crouch and
swung his sword upwards catching the skeleton in the bony hip. He stood takeing
the skelton off his feet and with a shove of his arms threw it into a wall. It
hit with a crunch of breaking bones and dropped into a pile.
Three were left and
Datton could feel weariness stealing upon him. His leg burned from where the
axe had slashed it. He could feel the blood flowing freely from it. He had to
stop the flow of blood soon or he might die.
As tired as he was he decided to try something
else. He leapt with a scream at the three skeletons. He slammed his knee into
the head of one smashed it into a wall where it broke apart. As he landed he
swept the lags of another skeleton.
He
felt more than saw the asword comig down and cauught the sword on his. He
pushed the blade up and with a slash cut the skeleton in half. It dropped with
a clatter to the ground.
The last skeleton
saw the remains of the others, screamed and ran off down the wallway past a
sleepy eyes boy.
Datton knelt, put
the tip of his sword agaisnt the ground and used it to prop himself up.
“Are you alright?”
Said a voice from behind him.
Datton looked
around to see his mentor standing behind him. He helped Datton to his feet.
“We have to get you
to the healer.”
Datton handed his
sword to the sleppy eyed boy and walked off with his mentor.
Within a half hour Datton was healed and once again sleeping
in his bed.
